Leadership
Teacher-Librarians demonstrate leadership
The Teacher - Librarian is in a unique position to promote literacy and act as an overall agent for change as they oversee a collection that is driven by interdisciplinary study. Our role is to connect with staff and support with staff development. We began a library advisory committee but only met in the fall semester. Working directly with my Administrator, I advocated for funding for the Battle of the Books, and Manga which has limited titles at our school library. I worked on the Instructional Leadership Team and provided recommendations on culturally relevant selections. I also lead a grade level professional development on argumentative writing as well as an Earth Day event as part of STEAM certification. The following evidence shows:
Understand the role of Teacher Librarian in staff development and professional development.
Description of Evidence: Agenda for the library advisory committee meeting held in the fall. The purpose was to discuss the establishment of the Battle of the Books team and develop a policy about visiting the library as teachers were sending students throughout the day.
Connection to Standards: Participation in leadership of comittees. The Library Advisory Comittee is intended to be a group of teachers who meet to discuss issues pertaining to the development of the library.
Description of Evidence: The following document are the notes taken from all the meetings held last semester with my direct administrator, Assistant Principal, Dr. Berman. She was assigned as my supervisor and met with me weekly to discuss facilities issues and to support me in reopening the library.
Connection to Standards: Teacher Librarians meet with the Principal to advocate for student learning experiences and support for the library.
Description of Evidence: Instructional Leadership Team Agenda. I actively participated in ILT at SFIAM for 6 years prior to moving to Fulton College Prep. In this meeting, we were planning for next year and the team requested a list of culturally relevant titles. The agenda has notes on what was advised during the ILT and teacher input was included in the selections.
Connection to Standards: Participation in leadership committees, working across grade levels to service the whole school by meeting with the Instructional Leadership Committee.
